How to read this data

• Scope matters. "This visa type" means the page is about the Digital Nomad visa. "General visa guidance" means it is a general rule that may or may not apply.
• A missing row proves nothing. If an office has no row on a topic, that does not mean the office has no rule.
• Fees are general visa fees. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs gives about 15,000 yen for a single entry and about 30,000 yen for multiple entries since July 1, 2026. Nationals on an office's exemption list pay nothing. The Chicago checklist for this visa points to the general single-entry fee. Payment rules vary too, and some United States offices take exact cash or money order.
• The core tests do not change by office. The Immigration Services Agency sets the income test of 10 million yen, the insurance rule and the six-month stay. Offices differ on paperwork and wording.

Worked example

Set Topic to "Passport pages" and the table shows 3 entries: San Francisco asks for at least one blank visa page, Chicago at least two, and Houston at least one and a half. Set Topic to "Processing time" and it shows 6 entries, from 5 working days at Edinburgh to up to two months at Los Angeles and Portland. The Edinburgh figure is general guidance, not specific to this visa.

What this leaves out

• Other offices: we found no Digital Nomad checklist for Seattle, New York, Boston, Atlanta or Honolulu in our searches. That does not mean those offices lack one. The New York row here is a general fee only.
• Offices outside these three countries: we have no rows for them. See where to apply for rules at some other offices.
• Signatures: Houston, Los Angeles and Chicago do not accept an electronic signature. Chicago needs an authorization form if someone else applies for you.
• Current checklists: each office may publish a newer version.
